Opinion: Can you imagine Alaska having it’s towns connected by trains? After nearly half a century, most places in Alaska are still isolated by vast distances and a lack of a road system connecting our communities. Magnetic “levitation” is a reality, on a highway made of large electrically charged coils, permanent magnets, and connected to a large source of power, making possible trains that can travel at high speeds; they travel efficiently with virtually no loss due to the friction of the weight of the train on its track.
In Alaska, there is an abundance of sun in the summer, where large solar arrays, placed in fields could produce electricity for a line running the length of the state; along a route is also one of the largest clean coal powerplants, as well as geothermal power, and hydroelectric energy from the Yukon river that could be harnessed to support the development of such a train to offer expansion to the state’s other resources. There are also potiential military applications.
